Hampshire College is accepting applications for a full time custodian to join the staff in our facilities & grounds department.

Under the supervision of the custodial supervisor, the custodian will perform duties in accordance with the College’s established Quality Assurance Program. Custodian will provide superior customer service while completing in a timely manner, all work requests assigned by the custodial supervisor in accordance with established cleaning standards and instructions. The custodian will act as independent entity in the maintenance and care of their building (s), and are expected to think and act progressively in the maintenance and care of their building(s). Custodian must participate in the on-call program rotation, as well as the Blood-Borne Pathogens program.

High school diploma or equivalent with two years of job-related experience is required. Applicants should have general knowledge of building maintenance and cleaning processes. Work is both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to unpleasant elements and a harsh environment such as extreme temperatures, wind, sunlight, rain, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc.  This position includes custodial responsibilities requiring significant physical activity; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Candidate should be able to read, write, understand, and give written and verbal instruction in English. It is required that the custodian possess a valid driver’s license and successfully meets the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy. Employment is dependent on successful completion of a pre-employment physical. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.

This 40-hour per week, benefited position holds a grade 2 in the Hampshire College staff salary grading schedule. The work schedule is Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM from May until the end of August. September 1st the schedule will shift to Monday – Friday, 3 PM to 11:30 PM with rotating weekends.
