Hampshire College is accepting applications for full time painter/general maintenance to join the team in our facilities & grounds department.

 

The painter/general maintenance performs general interior and exterior painting, installations of wallpaper, and repairing and installation of sheetrock to include taping and finishing of joints. This position will also perform a routine range of work in the repair, renovation and general maintenance of college facilities. The painter/general maintenance will assist in the maintenance of roadway and athletic field line painting, and the production and maintenance of campus signs within the College's sign program. The painter/general maintenance acts as the lead worker when assigned casual help in completing  projects; coordinates work with other facilities departments to complete projects and assignments in a timely manner; maintains job assignment and completion records, inventory and equipment maintenance records; and responds to special work assignments and requests. The painter/general maintenance must participate in the Facilities & Grounds On-Call Emergency Response Program and be available for after-hours special events if needed.

 

A high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of three years working as commercial painter/general maintenance is required. Qualified candidate must be able to safely operate various hand and power tools used to accomplish painting and refinishing of exterior / interior walls surfaces for all campus buildings and facilities. Ability to interpret paint specifications and knowledge of proper product applications is essential.

           

Work is both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to unpleasant elements and a harsh environment such as extreme temperatures, wind, sunlight, rain, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc. Candidate must be able to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) for an extended period of time; must be capable of wearing a full body harness for working at heights and in confined spaces; use ladders and lifts; and under certain situations may be required to wear a respirator.  This position requires a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and ability to successfully meet the requirements of the Hampshire College driver credentialing policy.
