Hampshire College is accepting applications for a full time plumber to join the team in our facilities & grounds department.

The plumber provides journeymen level repairs and maintenance to all campus plumbing and heating (where applicable) systems within all college owned, rented or leased facilities.  Responsibilities include: basic welding skills, assistance with maintaining sprinkler systems, domestic hot water and space heating systems and equipment as assigned; utilizing SDS safety sheets and following proper safety procedures in accordance with college policies and OSHA regulations; coordinating work with other facilities & grounds departments to complete projects and assignments in an organized, professional and timely manner; and answer questions and serve as a technical resource to other staff and management. The plumber must stay current with, and adhere to, all applicable Massachusetts State, Federal, and local plumbing codes and safety regulations related to plumbing and heating systems to remain in compliance; they must ensure that all staff adheres to the same regulatory and safety codes when working under your direct supervision. The plumber must participate in the Facilities & Grounds On-Call Emergency Response Program and be available for after-hours special events if needed. A current Massachusetts Plumber Journeyman License is required. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a minimum of one year in plumbing repairs and maintenance is preferred. Qualified candidate must be able to maintain, manage and prepare reports and records, as well as interpret specifications and blueprints in preparation of related project estimates. Good communication skills, interpersonal skills and a demonstrated organizational ability is essential.

Work is both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to unpleasant elements and a harsh environment such as extreme temperatures, wind, sunlight, rain, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc. Candidate must be able to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) for an extended period of time; be capable of wearing a full body harness for working at heights and in confined spaces; use ladders and lifts; and under certain situations may be required to wear a respirator.  This position requires a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and ability to successfully meet the requirements of the Hampshire College driver credentialing policy. Employment is dependent on successful completion of a pre-employment physical. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds required.
