Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for admissions counselors for our forward thinking and student-oriented admissions office.

The admission counselors contribute to all areas of the admissions process at Hampshire College which includes thinking strategically about recruitment and building relationships with prospective students, high school guidance counselors, teachers, and schools. The counselors in these roles in addition to managing their enrollment territory, will advise, recruit, and review the credentials of first-year and transfer applicants for admission to Hampshire College. Duties will include managing an assigned geographic territory, which include contacting and building relationships with prospective and accepted students and traveling eight to ten weeks per year to selected geographic areas.  Traveling to high schools, community colleges, and college days/nights/fairs around the country for the purpose of recruiting students and giving large public presentations or holding small-personalized counseling sessions as appropriate. Recruiting diverse and academically talented students while serving as College liaisons for prospective students from initial inquiry to enrolled status. Interviewing prospective applicants at Hampshire or in the field to enhance their interest in the college and to assess their preparation and readiness for study at Hampshire.

A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of one year job-related experience is required. This position requires creativity, a high level of interpersonal communication skills, and strong computer and communication skills. Applicants should be results-oriented, energetic individuals who can work in a fast-paced environment. They must have effective decision-making skills and customer service experience. Qualified applicants must be flexible and adaptable to changing environments. They must have effective public speaking and presentation skills, a belief in the value of a liberal arts education and passion for Hampshire's unique educational philosophy and ability to knowledgeably communicate that uniqueness. The admissions counselors must be superbly organized and task and project oriented, and be able to work independently and juggle multiple tasks frequently without advance warning.

All staff members of the office of admissions and financial aid office must be passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism. Thus possess an understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities is required, which includes being able to incorporate an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens into regular practice. Counselors must be comfortable navigating challenging conversations and have a commitment to being a part of the larger Hampshire community. They must be receptive to feedback and be likely to take initiative to solve problems as they arise. Good writing skills are a must.This position requires a valid driver’s license and must successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy.
