Food Service Dishwashers

Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is located on a beautiful rural campus in Amherst, Massachusetts. We provide residential undergraduate education to nearly 600 students. Our Dining Services department provides high quality meal services to students, employees, and guests in the form of take-out, dining-in, and catering from multiple locations on campus. The food service dishwashers ensures cleanliness of all utilities. Duties include scraping and rinsing food from dirty dishes and washing them by hand or placing them in racks or on conveyor to dishwashing machine depending on assigned equipment; washing pots, pans and trays based on assigned procedures; removing trash and placing it in designated containers; steam cleaning or hosing out garbage cans; opening and/or closing the unit following all set procedures; and ensuring the units meet the expectations for quality, productivity and safety. The food service dishwashers will maintain temperatures and chemical levels as outlined by provided standards; keep dish area orderly and in compliance with safety standards; and ensure complete cleanliness and sanitation.

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Qualified candidates must be resourceful, resilient, self-motivated, and energetic. These positions will require good verbal communication skills; ability to be organized, detail oriented, and to multi task; and a cheerful disposition when communicating with guests. Candidates must be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs.; frequently bend and twist from the waist; stand for extended periods of time, up to 4 consecutive hours; and require frequent use of hands and arms. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.

This 10-month, 40 hour/week benefited position has an employment cycle of August 1 through May 31. While the position is 40 hours a week, Dining Services employees have some flexibility with scheduling. The hourly pay rate for this position is $15.00 with excellent benefits program including health, dental, vision, an employee assistance program, a retirement plan, tuition benefits, and more!
