 Reports to: Associate Professor of Dance and Performance Curation

Anticipated Start Date: August 23, 2021

The Hampshire Dance Program supports students’ research and creative practice in dance, movement, and the body, and their broad ranging intersections with other areas of study. DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The dance program assistant is a part-time position that runs from August - May (14 weeks/semester). This position of program assistant is integral to the functioning of the dance program as a source of general administrative support for courses, concerts, students’ research and creative work, guest artist visits, and our collaboration with Five College Dance. Occasional evenings and weekends are required.

Examples of dance program assistant responsibilities:

Administrative Support

  • Coordinating schedules and tasks with the dance program coordinator and/or their equivalent
  • Managing the studio calendar and responding to all space requests
  • Supporting general program publicity and communications
  • Documenting and handling archival materials

Support for dance concerts and special events

  • Publicity drafting, printing, and distribution
  • Outreach for concert crew
  • Tracking student participation
  • Liaison between HDP and Production office
  • Coordinating annual attendance at the American College Dance Association (ACDA) Conference, Jacob’s Pillow College Partnership events, or other regional event

Working in conjunction with work study students on specific tasks

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Working in close collaboration with the dance program coordinator, the dance program assistant will have a knowledge of dance/movement studies and performance and be proficient (or able to gain proficiency) in the following skills: written and verbal communication, collaboration across a range of constituencies (students, faculty, other staff), organization of information, scheduling, time management, graphic design, basic web design/updating. The successful candidate will also be proficient (or able to gain proficiency) in the use of Mailchimp, Adobe Creative Suite, Excel or Google spreadsheets, Wordpress, and video editing software. The successful candidate will also have demonstrated experience in facilitation and community building that will support the Dance Program’s and Hampshire College’s broader mission to build and sustain a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and collaborative learning and making environment.

Must have the ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

One year of job-related experience

Alternatives to formal education and paid work experience may be considered as equivalent qualifications to include military service/training, volunteering, activism, and other non-traditional programs and experiences related to the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
