Schedule: 40 Hours a week; Monday – Friday 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Pay Range/ Status: $26.00 - $29.00/ Non-Exempt

                                  $2,080 - $2,320 paid bi-weekly

Location: Hampshire College Campus in Amherst, MA

Reports to: Maintenance and Construction Manager

Anticipated Start Date: Immediately

  • Vacation days - 10 paid vacation days per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30), prorated according to start date; vacation time will increase with years of service.

ABOUT US:

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the maintenance and construction manager, the locksmith’s primary responsibility is to provide direct oversight of the key and lock operations, card access, and key/lock data management for facilities and grounds. This includes installing, repairing, adjusting, and replacing doors, locks and other door closures around various buildings and facilities; making duplicate keys when required; managing the supply of keys for the College, keeping detailed records of key data and logistics, developing and implementing policies and procedures for lock and key systems, and training and supporting other facilities and grounds staff in locksmith protocols. This position ensures that they key operations and data management are documented, digitized and accessible to the College as needed.

As a member of the facilities and grounds team, this position is essential to employee, student and community service and experience. The incumbent must feel comfortable working in an often fast-paced organizational framework with shifting and evolving responsibilities. This position collaborates with other facilities and grounds staff, and a variety of other college offices to meet the department goals, and further the mission of the department and the College. This position participates as a committed member and leader of the facilities and grounds team in college and department work, projects, meetings, events, and overall community development.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 1-3 years’ experience in Facilities and Grounds general maintenance;
  • Working knowledge and understanding of locksmithing, general maintenance techniques and practices related to facilities management;
  • Any combination of training, education and supervisory experience will be considered;
  • Working knowledge of Massachusetts building codes, fire, ADA and safety codes and requirements;
  • Ability to collect, maintain and keep current key data in spreadsheet form using Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to learn and retain a broad spectrum of information;
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions typical to the New England region;
  • Ability to climb ladders and work on scaffolding and aerial lift equipment when needed;

  • Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments;

  • Must have a reliable form of transportation to get to and from work;
  • Must be able to be licensed under the college’s driver credentialing program upon hire and pass the DOT physical;
  • Must own hand tools

Preferred:

  • 1-2 years as a practicing locksmith;
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in general maintenance or carpentry; with an emphasis on doors, door closures, hardware, and frames;
  • Knowledge of Access Lock Systems, or key management applications;
  • Expanded knowledge of Access Control and Keyless entry systems;
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, maintain and keep current, sensitive data;
  • Any additional licenses or certifications relevant to the administration of a key operation.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year job-related experience

Alternatives to formal education and paid work experience may be considered as equivalent qualifications to include military service/training, volunteering, activism, and other non-traditional programs and experiences related to the position.
