As part of the division of justice, equity, and antiracism, the wellness center’s mission is to promote holistic health and wellness through creating and sustaining an environment that supports, promotes, and enriches student wellness and involvement, increases access and awareness around student support resources and services, contributes to co-curricular learning, and fosters self-advocacy while emphasizing community care, individual well-being, and a sense of belonging. DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The assistant director of student wellness is a full time, 12-month staff member in the division of justice, equity, and antiracism reporting to the director of student wellness. They serve as the lead staff member for the wellness center, develop and coordinate holistic student wellness education and support programs, initiatives, and services. The assistant director will approach their work by utilizing the division’s holistic dimensions of wellness as a framework to guide the activities, resources, and services they provide and oversee. The assistant director will assist the director of student wellness by collaborating, executing, and managing resources and staff related to student wellness, which includes the wellness center, student resource center, and spiritual life center, focusing specifically on holistic wellness education and promotion and community and student development programming and services. This position serves to create and sustain an environment that supports, promotes, and enriches student wellness and involvement, increases access and awareness around student support resources, contributes to co-curricular learning, and promotes self-advocacy while emphasizing both community and individual wellbeing and sense of belonging.

The assistant director is a student development practitioner who is student-centered, highly motivated, and cares deeply about forming strong relationships and engaging in meaningful and educational experiences with students. This position needs to be highly visible, maintain strong connections and work successfully with students, faculty, staff, parents, and external constituents focusing on student wellness and support, holistic wellness education, and student engagement and involvement. Additionally, the assistant director will assist the director of student wellness with the management of the community garden and shopping shuttle program and serve as a resource and advocate for students, faculty, and staff through providing training, education, consultation, and program support focused around student holistic wellness. The assistant director must have experience in program design and management and feel comfortable working in an evolving, fast paced, organizational framework with shifting responsibilities. Flexibility is required to be in line with the College’s academic calendar, divisional priorities, and student needs.

The assistant director will work collaboratively with justice, equity, and antiracism departments and leadership, and other campus constituents to build a community that will be open and honest with one another and act with integrity and civility at all times, treating one another with respect, care, and kindness as we work through conflicts and seek justice and understanding within and beyond the campus community. Centering their work in both restorative and transformative justice, the staff member will aid in creating a campus culture that is more actively antiracist, inclusive, and equitable.

The staff member contributes to campus-wide educational initiatives, for instance the Community Days of Learning and New and Transfer Student Orientation that advances the College’s commitment to justice, equity and antiracism and to building a vibrant, welcoming and safe community. Participates as a committed member of the justice, equity, and antiracism team in college and divisional committee work, projects, meetings, retreats and overall community development and assists in the coordination and facilitation of academic courses, co-curricular activities and services for students. Availability to work evenings and weekends is required.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Supports and enhances a sense of belonging and success of students from traditionally marginalized populations.
  • Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including students from underrepresented groups (e.g., BIPOC, LGBTQ+, students with disabilities, international students, etc.).
  • Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Ability to function independently and complete projects with limited supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, interpret results and make recommendations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive, professional relationships.
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize in a fast-paced, team- oriented environment.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity as well as collaborative decision-making structures.
  • Experience presenting to groups.
  • Strong supervisory, problem-solving and collaborative skills.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of higher impact strategies that support students’ holistic growth and development, enhances and promotes community and individual wellbeing, and promotes persistence and degree completion.
  • Understanding of Student Development Theory, knowledge of higher education trends and best practices, administration and governance
  • Familiarity with computer programs: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, information management (Colleague), social media applications, student activities platforms, etc.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years’ job related-experience

Alternatives to formal education and paid work experience may be considered as equivalent qualifications to include military service/training, volunteering, activism, and other non-traditional programs and experiences related to the position.
