Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution, is accepting applications for a costume shop supervisor.

The costumer shop supervisor will stock and maintain the space and tools for costume storage and construction. They will supervise and support the student costume designers for up to 20 productions a year; instruct students in costume construction techniques; supervise and instruct the costume work study students; and serve as an advisor for students exploring costume and fiber arts. In addition, the supervisor will serve as an independent study instructor in conjunction with a faculty member; create costume presentations for the academic classes offered in the program;  transport and mentor students as they shop for, build, and borrow costumes throughout the Pioneer Valley; and serve as a resource to students outside of the theatre program.  The costumer shop supervisor will teach students what they need to learn for each particular project and production, and the different type of skill set dependent upon the theatrical production. The costume shop supervisor works in collaboration with the theatre program manager and the faculty in the Theatre Program to activate the mission of the program.

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and three years of job-related experience is required. Qualified candidate should be highly knowledgeable about theatre costume design practices, and how to negotiate fitting the body, and significant clothing construction, sewing and crafting skills. Candidate must have management and communication skills, as well as budgeting knowledge. An Understanding of the development and importance of professional portfolios is a must. The successful candidate should have full knowledge of the costuming resources in the Pioneer Valley and the surrounding region.  A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential. The costumer shop supervisor must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

This is a 23.5 hour/week, 9-month benefited position which holds an employment cycle of September to June. We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits program.
