Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an associate director of alumni and family relations in the office of college advancement.

The associate director of alumni and family relations (AFR) will join a collaborative and energetic fundraising team during a period of re-growth. Working with a high level of independent skill and judgement under the direction of the chief advancement officer, the associate director will be integral in the strategy, development, and delivery of high-impact engagement programs and events for Hampshire’s more than 12,000 worldwide alumni. They will work closely with colleagues across advancement, faculty, high-level donors and volunteers to increase engagement among alums, families, and friends of the College. The associate director will strategize with the leadership giving team to plan and organize events as a vehicle for fundraising, and act as the primary liaison with event hosts, major donors, trustees, and friends of the College regarding events. In partnership with the Alumni Advisory Group, they will empower alumni as advocates for the College and enhance volunteer opportunities. They will coordinate with colleagues in student life and communications to maintain positive relations with parents of current students and alumni. As Hampshire pursues a bold new vision for the student experience, the associate director of alumni and family relations will serve as an external spokesperson to the alumni and parent communities, and a key organizer of the College’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

The ideal candidate will be an evangelist for Hampshire and its mission and an energetic and strategic program manager. We are seeking a flexible relationship-builder who is passionate about cultivating community, experienced working with volunteers, and comfortable with collaborating as part of a fundraising team.

A bachelor’s degree with minimum of five years’ job related experience is required.  The successful candidate will have strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to competently and calmly handle multiple concurring tasks while providing excellent customer service; strong writing skills with capacity to tailor message to multiple audiences; excellent technology skills, including ability to learn and adapt to new programs; and a commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds. This position requires occasional travel, evenings and weekends. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential. This position requires a valid driver’s license and must successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy.
