Hampshire College, one of America’s most distinguished, innovative liberal arts institutions and member of the Five College consortium (with Amherst, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst) is accepting applications for a director of financial aid.

The director of financial aid is responsible for the successful management and administration of the College’s student financial services office and its functions, including but not limited to accounting operations, budget preparation, preparation of federal, state and district reports, maintenance of federal fund budgetary controls and regulatory compliance, and the delivery of funds and services to students. The director maintains compliance with all federal, state and local regulations governing student aid programs. They serve as an active member of the enrollment management team and is the strategic lead within the division to develop aid approaches that will assist Hampshire in meeting strategic enrollment goals while efficiently using the College's limited financial aid resources.   The director works with the dean of admission and financial aid, admissions, central records, institutional research, and the business office to coordinate financial aid operations and develop, implement, and strategically evaluate the College’s financial aid policies.

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required with a minimum of seven years of job-related experience. Successful candidate must possess a high level of computer skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Colleague, Informer), knowledge of the use of financial aid related software and web portals (PowerFAIDS, ED Connect, NSLDS, COD, VSAC, OSFA, CSS, FAA Access, PHEAA etc) and experience with web content management systems. An ability to use and develop reports with college reporting tools, using knowledge of fields in database to ensure accurate reporting is a must. In addition, candidate should have high level math skills, ability to interpret complex tax return information, be able to communicate clearly orally and in writing to all constituents, and ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks in stressful moments in the academic year. The director of financial aid must possess customer service and interpersonal skills, especially to diffuse tense situations with students and their parents. Candidate should have supervisory experience. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential
