Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for director of dining services.

The director of dining services is responsible for maintaining a high quality and efficient food service program.  This includes advocating for and implementing changes to the program as operational circumstances warrant and as enrollment fluctuates to provide the best quality program within the constraints of the budgeted revenue.  The director coordinates with stakeholders, including student life and event services, on campus, fosters relationships with dining directors at Five College peer institutions to find ways to collaborate where possible, and maintains a working relationship with Amherst Health Inspection Services and other regulatory bodies.  This position is responsible for leading all staff members in the day-to-day operations, maintaining high standards and conditions, and promoting a positive and inclusive environment, leading to a quality experience for customers. The director of dining services establishes the workplace climate and norms of the operation by expecting high standards of customer service, product knowledge and education, ensuring safe work practices, and having a demonstrated commitment to providing high-quality food and beverage options for the Hampshire College community.

An associate degree or equivalent with a minimum of five years job-related experience is required. Qualified candidate should have experience directly overseeing dining operations at a college, conference center, or other similar venue; experience in food purchasing, production, and service is essential. The director of dining should demonstrate excellent judgment, problem-solving and decision-making ability; be resourceful, resilient, highly motivated and energetic; able to evaluate and balance competing priorities; have excellent verbal and written communication skills; and be well organized, detail-oriented and able to multitask. Computer proficiency; familiar with software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and point-of sale systems, such as CBORD is a must. Successful candidate must have a commitment to quality and high expectations, excellent customer service skills, and experience communicating and marketing food services to customers. Candidates should be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. ServSafe, Allergy Awareness, and Choke Safety certifications are required.
